Video-EEG monitoring, standard protocol, 20 min
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a method of recording the electrical activity of the brain, allowing assessment of the functional state of different areas of the cortex and deep brain structures. Video-EEG monitoring combines the recording of brain activity with video observation of the patient’s behavior and is performed according to the standard protocol for 20 minutes. The procedure helps to identify possible abnormalities in brain bioelectrical activity, including epileptic seizures, sleep disorders, and other neurological conditions, as well as to evaluate therapy effectiveness and detect atypical seizures.
Indications
- Suspected epileptic or other paroxysmal episodes
- Sleep and behavioral disorders
- Monitoring the effectiveness of antiepileptic therapy
- Diagnosis of seizures of unclear origin
Procedure / Duration
- Patient preparation and electrode placement on the head
- Simultaneous EEG recording and video monitoring
- Standard protocol: approximately 20 minutes
Contraindications
- Active scalp infections or lesions at the electrode sites
- Severe psychomotor agitation preventing the procedure
- Individual intolerance to the contact gel
Recovery / Restrictions
- Non-invasive procedure, no recovery required
- Possible temporary discomfort from electrodes
- Normal daily activities can be continued on the day of the procedure
Benefits
- Simultaneous recording of brain activity and patient behavior
- Accurate diagnosis of epileptic and paroxysmal seizures
- Safe, quick, and completely painless procedure
- Possibility to individually assess therapy response

IMPORTANT!
It is very important to note that the information in this section is not intended for self-diagnosis or self-treatment. In case of pain or worsening of a condition, you must consult a doctor to prescribe the necessary diagnostic investigations. Only a qualified specialist can provide an accurate diagnosis and determine the appropriate treatment.
To obtain the most accurate and consistent analysis results, it is recommended to perform all tests in the same laboratory. This is because different laboratories may use varying methods and measurement units for similar investigations.
Pregătirea:
- Avoid caffeine-containing beverages (coffee, energy drinks) a few hours before the procedure, as they may influence the results.
- Wash your hair before the procedure, without using styling products or other cosmetics.
- Get sufficient sleep and rest beforehand, as fatigue may affect brain activity.
- Inform your doctor if you have any metal implants or medical devices that may interfere with the procedure.
