Salmonella typhi, antigen (qualitative)

Antibodies to the Vi-antigen of the typhoid pathogen (S. typhi) are specific proteins – immunoglobulins produced by the immune system in response to infection with the typhoid pathogen and involved in the body's immune defense reactions.

Typhoid fever is an acute infectious disease with fecal-oral transmission, the causative agent of which is Salmonella typhi. The incubation period lasts on average 9-14 days. The disease begins gradually with General malaise, insomnia and headache, then they are joined by fever, symptoms of Central nervous system damage in the form of retardation, disorders of consciousness and delirium, as well as violations of the chair and a characteristic rash in the abdomen and chest. The source of infection is typhoid sufferers and S. typhi bacteria carriers. Bacterial transmission can be acute, chronic, or transient.

Along with other antigens, the typhoid pathogen contains Vi-antigen, which ensures the pathogen's resistance to phagocytosis (the ability of specialized cells of the body, phagocytes, to absorb and digest foreign particles, including microorganisms), contributes to the chronization of infection and abdominal bacterial carrier.
