Myostatin (GDF-8)
Please note that independent interpretation of test results is not permitted; the information provided below is for informational purposes only.
Myostatin (GDF-8) is a protein from the TGF-β family that regulates the growth and development of muscle tissue. It acts as a “brake” on muscle growth, preventing excessive hypertrophy.
Measuring myostatin levels in the blood allows assessment of muscle mass, the balance between muscle growth and breakdown, and helps diagnose metabolic disorders and diseases associated with muscle atrophy.
Indications
- evaluation of muscle mass in atrophy or sarcopenia
- sports medicine for monitoring muscle growth
- monitoring diseases associated with protein metabolism disorders
- preparation for rehabilitation after injuries or surgeries
- studies of metabolism and endocrine influence on muscles
Procedure
- venous blood collection
- sample processing and laboratory analysis
- interpretation of results by a specialis
