A pelvic X-ray is performed to evaluate the condition of the pelvic bones, as well as the sacroiliac and pubic joints.

When is a pelvic X-ray recommended?

1. When pain is present in the pelvic area following trauma
2. In cases of suspected pelvic deformation
3. To detect hematomas or swelling
4. If urinary incontinence is present (e.g., due to sacral fracture with nerve damage)
5. In cases of multiple injuries and signs of traumatic shock
6. When tumors or metastases in the pelvic bones are suspected
7. For women planning pregnancy who may have a narrowed pelvis
8. In cases of pubic symphysis separation during pregnancy
9. In the presence of bony exostosis (bone growths)

What can the radiologist assess in a pelvic X-ray?

• Various injuries or lesions of the pelvic ring
• Fractures and fissures of the femoral head and neck
• Hip dislocation and subluxation, including congenital cases in children
• Tumors of the pelvic bones and metastases
• The condition of sacroiliac and hip joints
• Arthritis/arthrosis of various causes (e.g., gout, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis)
• Osteoporosis

* X-ray imaging is contraindicated in pregnant women unless strictly recommended by a physician.

Procedure duration: 5–10 minutes

• No special preparation is required. Before the X-ray, it is necessary to remove any metal objects, such as jewelry or piercings.
