Please note that independent interpretation of test results is not permitted; the information provided below is for informational purposes only.
The Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) is a laboratory analysis that evaluates how the body processes glucose. The test helps detect carbohydrate metabolism disorders, including prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, at early stages.
During the test, blood glucose levels are measured fasting and then at specific intervals after consuming a standard dose of glucose. Results allow assessment of pancreatic function and tissue sensitivity to insulin.
Indications
- suspected diabetes or prediabetes
- excess body weight, especially abdominal obesity
- chronic fatigue and low energy
- hypertension or lipid metabolism disorders
- planning pregnancy (to detect gestational diabetes)
- family history of type 2 diabetes
- polycystic ovary syndrome
Procedure
- fasting blood sample
- consumption of glucose solution (usually 75 g)
- repeated blood samples at 30, 60, and 120 minutes
- analysis of results

It is crucial to remember that the information provided in this section is not intended for self-diagnosis or self-treatment. If you experience any symptoms or a flare-up of a condition, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for diagnostic testing and proper treatment. Only a qualified specialist can provide an accurate diagnosis and determine the appropriate treatment. To obtain the most accurate and consistent assessment of test results, it is recommended to have them performed at the same laboratory. This is because different laboratories may use different methods and units of measurement for similar tests.
