As men age, their bodies gradually change, adapting to new conditions. Hormones, metabolism, and the reproductive system undergo subtle changes. Often, men do not notice the first “warning” signs. But there is a key and most vulnerable area that requires attention after 40 years — the prostate.
The prostate is a small gland located below the bladder and surrounding the urethra, which plays a key role in maintaining the health of the male urinary system by controlling the flow of urine and helping prevent congestion in the pelvic area. American Urological Association (AUA) recommends discussing the PSA test with a doctor starting at age 45 for men with average risk, and from age 40 for men with increased risk (African Americans, family history of prostate cancer).
European Association of Urology (EAU) also stresses that PSA screening is a key tool for early detection of prostate problems and reduces the risk of late diagnosis.
